The prince of Benaras was a cruel man. One day, the prince was swept off by a rainstorm, while bathing in a river. To save himself, he held on to a dead log. A monk saw the prince and saved him. On the same log, he also found a snake, a water rat and a parrot. The next day, all of them bade the monk goodbye, each promising to help him. After some years, the monk set out to see the prince who had become a king now. When the king saw the monk, he ordered his servants to send him away. The poor monk went to the snake and the water rat. They had been guarding a huge treasure and gave him a box full of gold coins. The parrot gave him the best rice in the kingdom. All of four lived peacefully, while the cruel king was attacked and killed in a battle.
Moral: The end result of cruelty can never be good.
