Francis Leavy’s Handprint

For twenty years a mysterious handprint was visible on a Chicago fire station window. It belonged to Francis Leavy, a firefighter, who predicted his own death in 1924. On April 18, 1924, a four-storey building was going up in flames; in the battle against the inferno Francis Leavy lost his life. The very next day, people noticed the handprint at exactly the same spot where Francis Leavy had leaned and told of his fore-coming doom the day before. It could not be cleaned off, buffed off or scraped off. In 1944, a paper boy carelessly threw a newspaper breaking the glass and the handprint.
