Living near the bottom of outer continental shelf and upper continental slope at depths of up to 1,200 metres is the frilled shark. It is dark brown or grey, measures 2 metres long and has an eel-like body with six pairs of frilly gill slits. It bends its body and lunges forward like a snake to capture its prey, mainly cephalopods, bony fish and other sharks.
