You will need:
- Thick marker pen
- Palm-size white paper
- Clear/Transparent glass
- Water
You don’t need to have fancy gadgets or years of practice to become a magician. Sometimes all you need to perform a magic trick is a strong foundation in science. Try this simple experiment and amaze all your friends, that too without any slight-of-hand.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Make a friend draw 2 arrows pointing in the same direction horizontally, one below the other on a sheet of white paper.
- Make sure the paper is the same size as the glass. Also, make sure the arrows are of a good size, spaced apart, and are clearly visible.
- Next, place the white paper with the arrows drawn against a wall or something solid (so that it may not fall).
- Place the empty glass in front of the paper.
- Both the arrows should be visible through the glass.
- Slowly, fill the glass
with water until one
of the arrows is
covered by the
water.
RESULT
The arrow which is submerged by the water will magically change directions
and face the other way. Fill the glass with water, and see the other arrow also
change direction. This simple illusion takes place as a result of refraction,
wherein the light from the arrow moves through various mediums before
reaching your eyes. Also, the water-filled glass acts as a magnifying glass,
which has a shorter focal point, thus creating a reverse image for our eyes.
