Common name : Garden orbweb spider
Scientific name : Eriophora pustulosa
Family : Araneidae
Native to : Australia, New Zealand
Interesting fact : This spider has 5 clearly visible distinctive spines on its back.
Varying vastly in size and length, the garden orbweb spider is a nocturnal hunter. It creates a circular web which is sticky on the outside in the night and lies in wait to catch prey. During the day, however, they hide outside their webs, so as not to attract predators. However, it does keep one foot attached to the webbing which runs to the centre of the web so as to remain alert for prey.
