Interesting fact : It is the largest of the wild oxen.

Conservation status : Critically Endangered

They usually have short, dense fur, blackish-brown in colour, with white or yellowish lower limbs and black horns. However, some domesticated gayals are white or parti-coloured. Gayals can breed throughout the year, but it usually peaks between December to June. The gayal is primarily bred for meat and is generally not milked or used for other work.
