Generous Mulla

Generous-Mulla

Once, Mulla Nasruddin fell into a ditch. He was surprised to see some people crying near the ditch. He asked an old man, “Sir, why are you sitting here?” The old man cried, “As I couldn’t pay back the money-lender, Jafar, he threw me out of my house.” “Give this money to Jafar and take your house back,” said Mulla, offering him two hundred and fifty coins from his donkey’s saddle. “O generous traveller, my child is sick. I have to pay two hundred coins to Jafar,” cried a widow. Feeling sorry, Mulla gave her the money. “Jafar had imprisoned the members of my family,” said a sculptor. Mulla was angry with Jafar but gave the sculptor the money. He then gave the rest of the money to another needy man. “What is your name, generous sir?” the sculptor asked. “There is no use knowing my name. Good deeds require no mention,” said Mulla, and he rode away on his donkey.
