George Kennan was born on 16th February 1845 in Norwalk, Ohio, United States, and he died on 10th May 1924 (aged 79 years) in Medina, New York, United States. George was a journalist and American explorer who is known for his travels to Kamchatka and Caucasus regions of the Russian Empire. George travelled to Russia for the first time when he was sent there by his company to survey the area for a proposed telegraph line through Siberia. Later, he travelled to the Caucasus region and became the first American to explore its highlands and write about the herders, silversmiths, carpet weavers and other craftsmen of the remote region.
