Its coat has dark blotches or patches, which can be orange, chestnut, brown, or nearly black in colour, separated by light hair, usually white or cream. Its tongue is up to 45 cm long! Male giraffes become darker as they age. Fully grown giraffes stand 5-6 metres (16-20 feet) tall, with males taller than females.
