After it was introduced to New Zealand, this cockroach was first discovered in the town of Gisborne, hence the name ‘Gisborne cockroach’. Its body is smooth and shiny and wingless. Adults are up to 45 mm long and 12-15 mm wide. Its body is very flattened and hind legs are long, powerful and obvious. Normal habitat is outdoors and it is commonly associated with timber or bark chips, but in cooler temperatures it establishes in roof voids and wall cavities of houses.
