It is a species of a rodent found in the temperate grasslands. It has dense, light fur, with the back and outer sides of the hind limbs being greyish and underside and limbs white in colour. These rodents live alone in burrows in the daytime, and are active at night. Their diet consists of seeds, roots, tubers, insects as well as larvae.
