They pair for life, looking after present offspring, as well as children from previous pairings, if any. They secure territory ranging from four to twelve kilometres. The jackals hunt in packs of 8-12. Those which have been ex-communicated from the pack, attach themselves to bigger predators, eating their leftovers. Jackals are carriers of rabies and other viruses harmful to people.
