Golden Jackal

Common name : Reed wolf

Scientific name : Canis aureus

Family : Canidae

Native to : North and North-Eastern Africa, South-Eastern and Central Europe, Asia Minor, the Middle East, and South-East Asia

Interesting fact : A white golden jackal was found in Iran in 2012.

Conservation status : Least Concern

They pair for life, looking after present offspring, as well as children from previous pairings, if any. They secure territory ranging from four to twelve kilometres. The jackals hunt in packs of 8-12. Those which have been ex-communicated from the pack, attach themselves to bigger predators, eating their leftovers. Jackals are carriers of rabies and other viruses harmful to people.
