These gentle giants of the African Continent were made famous by the late naturalist and primatologist Diane Fossey, who highlighted the illegal poaching of gorillas in Rwanda. There are two types of gorillas–Eastern and Western. They are the closest animal relatives of human beings, after chimps. They can go for long periods without water since the fluids from plants keep them well hydrated.
