Sam loved to bake cookies with his mother. They often baked together on weekends. One Saturday afternoon, Sam helped his mother bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies. He watched excitedly as his mother put them in the oven. “Mom, I can’t wait to taste them!” Sam said as his mother smiled. Just then, Sam’s mother went to answer the door. It was the telephone maintenance man and Sam’s mother stood talking to him for a long time. As Sam looked on, smoke started coming out of the oven. Sam quickly took out the cookies but they were hard and stiff. Sam felt so bad that he started to cry. His mother came back and said, “Sam, don’t cry, dear. Here, take some milk and pour it over the cookies. This is grandma’s recipe for pudding.” Sam happily poured milk over the cookies and enjoyed the delicious pudding.
