Let’s study the parts of a grasshopper in this experiment.
Things Required:
Insect net
Grasshopper (instruction for catching below)
Magnifying glass
Plastic bag
Directions:
Use the insect net to catch a grasshopper. It would be easier if you find a dead grasshopper for this study, but if a dead grasshopper is not found catch a live one with the net and place it in a plastic bag.
Move the live grasshopper to the end of the bag so that it may not move around. Use the magnifying glass to study the insect. Find the three main parts of the grasshopper. Also, find the other parts that are labelled.
This Is What Happens:
The three divisions of the body that are easily seen are the legs and the wings. With the aid of the magnifying glass, the other body parts are visible.
Science Behind It:
Grasshoppers like all insects have three main body parts: the head, thorax, and the abdomen; three pairs of legs; two pairs of wings; two antennae; a mouth; and compound and simple eyes.
