They range in colour from brownish-grey to all black or all white. They are the largest canines, and have a life span of 6-8 years in the wild. They live in packs of 2-12 and have a diet consisting of both large and small mammals such as deer or rabbits. Following a gestation period of 62-75 days, a litter of about 6 pups is born.
