Great-Barrier-Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system comprising 2,900 individual reefs. It is situated in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia. The first evidence of reef structure is said to have been 6,00,000 years ago.

Why it is special: Covering more than 2,300 kilometres, the corals that make up the Great Barrier Reef are the world’s biggest single structure made by living organisms. The Reef is visible from outer space. Considered to be one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, the Reef is home to more than 1,500 species of fish including many vulnerable and endangered species.
