The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha. The Statue sits in a seated prayer position located at the Kòtoku-in Temple in Kamakura, Japan. This Giant Buddha was constructed in 1252.

Why it is special: 13.35 metres in height, the Great Buddha Statue is hollow, allowing devotees and visitors to view it from within. Weighing 93 tonnes, the Statue initially sat atop 32 bronze lotus petals. Of these, only 4 remain today.
