Growing Stones or Trovants are found in Romania’s Valcea County. They are rocks that grow and multiply. Trovants are made by highly-porous sand accumulations and sandstone deposits that are cemented by waters rich in calcium carbonate. After the rains Trovants absorb the minerals of the rain which react with the chemicals in the stone that creates a pressure inside. This spontaneously makes the rock grow from the centre to its margins and multiply, with a deposition rate of about 4-5 cm in a 1000 years. Trovants usually appear with smooth and edgeless shapes. Trovants develop these inconsistent shapes as they grow and multiply due to irregular cement secretion.
