Guitars were originally developed as other instruments, and as such, there is no date that can be credited to the invention of the guitar. Initially, instruments like the tantar and the sitar were used in India, and the guitar is known to get its name from the sitar. Also, some odd 3300 years ago, it is known Hittites played instruments that were similar to the guitar. In 8th century BC, stringed instruments were used in the Europe, and somewhere around the 12th century BC, 4 string guitars are known to be used. Lute-tuned instruments, similar to the guitar, were also known to be used in Spain. The first six string guitars were used in Italy and were developed by Vincaccia family in 1779 BC. The modern guitars were invented and used much later in 1850s. Currently, there are many kinds of guitars that are available in the market, invented in different parts of the world as per needs. The first electric guitar with a solid body was invented by Leo Fender.
