It is a breathtaking waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvítá River in Southern Iceland. A popular tourist attraction, Gullfoss is unique because of its location. Since it flows through a canyon, the Hvítá River looks like it is descending into the earth using a ‘Three step staircase’, after which it takes a plunge in two stages. As a result, as one approaches the falls, it looks like the river has simply vanished into the earth. A unique sight where one can view a waterfall from above rather than look up at it.
