Gurudatta

King Vikramaditya took down the corpse and hanging it on his shoulder began walking. Baital as usual could not keep quiet. He said to Vikramaditya, “I know you want to deliver me to the hermit. But in the meantime, hear a story from me. Listen very carefully.” So, Baital started his story—“There was a kingdom called Gandhar. Its King was a law-abiding man. He had made many laws. Most of the actions of his subjects were governed by laws. One of the laws was that it was illegal for a man to get involved with a married woman. Those who broke this law were punished harshly and sent to prison or put to death. A merchant named Brahmadatta lived in the kingdom. He had a handsome son by the name of Gurudatta. He was looking for a bride. One, day he went to the temple.
