Haddocks belong to the cod fish family and live in cold waters that are 2-10 degrees. Juveniles stay in shallow water while adults venture into the deeper sea. It has a black lateral line along its white side and a distinctive spot above the pectoral fin called thumbprint or St. Peter’s mark. It feeds on small invertebrates; some adults feed on fish.
