Hadean Eon is the first division of the Precambrian time.
Time Period: The duration of this eon is between 4.5 billion (beginning of the Earth) to 4.0 billion years ago.
Features:
♦ This is the time when the solar system, including the Earth had just formed from the cloud of dust and gases. Those clouds and gaseous material started converting into liquid. The condition of the Earth was so bad that the time period was named as Hadean after ‘hades’. Hades is a Greek word, which refers to hellish conditions.
♦ In this period, the Earth’s external heat was the result of meteorites hitting the Earth with tremendous force. This heat contributed to the melting of the young Earth.
♦ The development of the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans took place in Hadean eon.
