Hamilton-Hume

Hamilton Hume was born on 19th June 1797 in Seven Hills, Australia, and he died on 19th April 1873 (aged 76 years), Yass, Australia. An explorer of the present day Australian states of New South Wales and Victoria, Hamilton was an expert Bushman. He went on the journey with the Surveyor-General and another person during which Lake Bathurst and Goulburn Plains were discovered. He is most well-known for the expedition he undertook along with William Hilton Hovell to explore the area from Sydney to Port Philip. Hamilton and the expedition team were the first Europeans to discover the Darling River, the longest tributary of the Murray River.

Do you know: Hamilton incorrectly thought that Hovell had taken credit for discovering Victoria and feuded with him till death.
