After smearing sindoor all over his body, Hanuman returned to the palace and entered Ram’s court. Ram was in deep discussion with his ministers about some important matters. Hanuman stepped into the court quietly and sat at his usual place near the foot of the throne. Everyone in the court was quite shocked to see Hanuman in this state–bright red from top to bottom. People could not take their eyes off this amusing sight! Some courtiers found it funny while some thought it was quite absurd. Sita just smiled to herself. Ram asked Hanuman, “Did you have some kind of a mishap, Hanuman? What is the story behind your new look?” Hanuman replied with both palms joined in reverence and tears in his eyes, “I have done this for your well-being, my Lord! I want you to live for as many years as the number of hair on this humble devotee’s body!”
