Taking leave of Seeta, and assuring her of his return soon with Rama and Lakshmana and the armies, Hanuman swiftly flew back. On the way, he paused to stroke Mainaka once again, before going ahead to Mahendra mountain where Jambavan, Angad and all the others waited. The vanara sena stood on Mahendra mountain, and seeing Hanuman, they began cheering and dancing. His arrival signalled that he had succeeded. They were all eager to hear about his expedition, and he told them all about his journey, Seeta’s great strength and piety, about Ravana and the burning of Lanka. The monkeys were delighted and celebrated joyously, eating whatever they could find–fruits, roots, honey and bee-hives! Jambavan told the vanara sena that they must carry the news to Sri Rama and Sugreeva quickly. So, the troop set off immediately for Kishkindha.
