Harlequin tusks live among reefs at depths of 5-35 metres. They are brightly coloured with shades of blue, green and orange. They have sharp protruding teeth that turn dark blue as they mature. These protogynous hermaphrodites are born as females and switch sex later in life. It feeds on echinoderms, crustaceans, molluscs and worms. Lifespan is 8 years.
