Hatim’s fame grew day by day. Travellers carried his stories to the land they went. He was known as the one who would give his own flesh to a hungry person and who rode a horse that was of the best Arabian breed. One day, a few travellers came to Hatim’s place. He did not have money to buy food, so he asked his servant to kill his horse to provide the travellers with food. After the sumptuous meal and a general conversation, Hatim asked them the reason for their visit. They said, “We have heard a lot about you and your horse. We have met you and discovered that the stories about you are true; now we would like to see your horse.” Hatim said, “It breaks my heart to tell you that I had to kill it in order to feed you all.” The travellers were speechless.
