With males at times reaching 17 cm in length, the Hercules beetle is the largest in the Dynastes genus. There is sexual dimorphism, with the females lacking horns but making up for it in body length. Its habitat is comprised of rainforest areas. The diet of the adult is comprised of rotting fruit, which it forages for on the forest floor. The larvae feed on rotting wood.
