Hermitage

The State Hermitage is the museum complex of art and culture located in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was established in 1764. One of the oldest and largest museums in the world, the Hermitage contains over 3 million items. The main museum comprises 6 buildings, with 5 open to the public. The collections on display include Egyptian and Dutch antiquities, prehistoric, decorative art, Italian, Spanish, French, British and German fine art, Flemish Baroque, Russian and impressionist arts, etc.

Amazing Fact: Hermitage announced in 1994 that they were holding paintings that were looted by the Red Army in Germany.
