Hodges and Daisy Fairy

Hodges was a giant of a man. He could not fit into an ordinary house. He needed huge chairs and tables, a massive bed and plates and spoons that looked like large boats! So, he could not find a house in the village. He built himself a very big cabin in the hills near the village and lived there all alone.
Hodges wanted to make friends with the people in the village. But they ran away when they saw him coming! They were so frightened by his size. He thought he would give some gifts to the people in the village. So, he made a wooden doll for Lily and took it to her. The doll was bigger than Lily! She couldn’t play with it.
Then he decided to take a small plant in a pot for Mrs Hetty’s cottage. The “small plant” stood outside her house. It was a big tree!
Poor Hodges was very, very sad. Nothing he did seemed to be right. That evening, he sat on a rock near his cabin and big tears fell from his eyes. There was a small daisy growing at the foot of the rock and his tears fell on it.

It so happened that a fairy with silver wings lived in the daisy. She suddenly found her wings getting wet and flew out. She shook the tear-drops off her wings and hovered near Hodges.
“Now look what you’ve done!” said a small indignant voice. Hodges looked around and saw a small silvery light. He stopped crying.
“Who are you?” he asked, puzzled.
“I’m Daisy Fairy! Who are you? Why are you crying?”
asked the fairy. “I’m Hodges,” he said, “I have no friends.”
“Oh! Why’s that?”
“They are scared because I’m so huge!” wailed Hodges.
“Oh! Do stop crying! Why don’t you just change your size?” said Daisy Fairy.
“Change my size? That’s not possible, is it?” asked Hodges.

“Of course, it’s possible! Wait. I’ll show you,” said the indignant little fairy. Pulling out her wand, she touched Hodges on his head and whispered a few magic words. Then she went back into her home in the daisy.
suddenly, Hodges found himself smaller. He went to the village and people seemed happy to chat with him. Slowly, he became a part of the village and made lots of friends. But he went every day to meet his first friend, Daisy Fairy!
