Holi is a beautiful festival of the Hindus. It is also called the festival of colours. Like Deepawali, it marks the victory of good over evil. Legend has that Holika, sister of demon Hiranyakashipu, sat in the fire along with Prahlad, devotee of Lord Vishnu, to kill him. But she himself was reduced to ashes. Prahlad was safe and sound. People and children apply different colours on one another’s faces. Children throw coloured water at others using long pichkaris (water-filled toys).
