Pink honeysuckle is a perennial vine shrub. It is a low-elevation woodlands shrub. It has distinctive leaves growing opposite on the stems, the uppermost pairs fuses at the bases to surround the stem. Attractive pink honeysuckle blossoms at the end of the stem. It bears spherical red fruits which are edible but bitter. The stems are hollow and sturdy, and are used by the Pomo people as smoking pipes. The plant is drought-tolerant. The flowers attract hummingbirds; other birds eat the fruits.
