Hot Ice (Creative Chemistry Experiments)

You will need:

  1. 4 tablespoonfuls of
    baking soda
  2. 1 litre white vinegar
  3. Transparent bowl
  4. Disposable utensil
  5. Gas stove
  6. Fridge

Hot ice or sodium acetate is a cool science experiment you could perform and amaze your friends and adults.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Take 1-litre of vinegar in a disposable utensil.
  2. To the vinegar, very little at a time add baking soda. Stir and add some more. But do this patiently, because if you add it all at once, you get a volcano, which will overflow.
  3. Once you have slowly and gradually mixed all the baking soda, place it
on the gas stove and ask an adult to stir it slowly till the mixture is
reduced to 150 ml or till crystals
    form on the surface.
  4. Take the mixture and pour it into a transparent bowl. Cover
it so that it may not evaporate
    any further.
  5. Place this inside a chiller tray of your fridge. Remove after a few hours to surprise everyone with your very own hot ice.

RESULT

The super cooled solution is sodium acetate which is chilled below freezing point. You can freeze this liquid simply by touching it with a spoon or your finger.
