Human Face

There is an old proverb ‘Face never tells a lie’ i.e. face is a mirror of mind, thought and nature of the person. Thought arises in the mind and its effect is seen on the face. Therefore, we are able to know the feeling of the mind by observing face. Morphology believes that the nature of the person is not determined on the basis of face or shape of the body; on the contrary one’s nature determines the shape. There are two types of thoughts – first permanent, second temporary. Temporary thoughts are transient, but it has instant effect on the face. As a result expression of the face (eyebrows, eyes, lips, aura, shape, colour etc.) appears changed instantly. This is the reason when we are pleased, angry, sad, the apparent feelings appear on our face. Our face is changed with the change of mood. If any feeling or thought affects constantly for long time, its effect can be seen in the behaviour also. As a result our face looks changed permanently.
Behaviour and feelings are a result of microscopic psychological actions. Its apparent effect can be seen in our face. As the content of computer floppy can be seen on the monitor screen; the feeling, behaviour and nature existed in the floppy of mind simultaneously appear on the face. Temporary thoughts affect expression of the face but the thoughts, which have perma-nent effect on mind, are also able to change the shape of face.
You have seen when a person is suffering from worries, sadness, agony; the muscles and expression of his face are in different position, but at the moment of happiness, he has different kind of muscular stretch on his lips, eyelids, cheek, temple and forehead resultantly a line can be seen in the lateral portion of the eyes of humorous persons.

Fig. 7 : Structure of the muscles and nerves of the face

The eyebrows of short-tempered person get wavy and zig-zag. Lines on account of stretch can be seen on his forehead and his eyes become reddish. Likewise effect of the thought arises in the mind is appeared on the face as symptom. As thought becomes firm, habitual and permanent, its mark or sign also becomes clear and deep. There is a proverb given by Shakespeare “To find the mind’s construction in the face” i.e. structure of the mind is seen on the face of man.
Structure or shape of the face basically depends upon skull bones and framework of muscles around it. Upper portion of the skull is round like a ball and the lower jaw is attached with the base of skull. Behind the jaw, the skull is attached with the top of backbone. Brain remains safe into the skull.
Brain is the head and controller of the entire nervous system. The brain experiences all activities such as blinking of eyes to the pain of needle prick. The body becomes unconscious on non-functioning of the brain. When the brain gets restless and agitated, common function of the body is interrupted. Skull bone and shape of the face are determined by the structure of brain.
There is a muscular framework over the surface of skull bone for expressing the feelings of mind. These muscles contract and expand as per the order of brain. Position of the muscles and nerves has been shown in figure 7. Facial muscles function as per the state of mind and thoughts of brain i.e. they contract and expand. This is the reason that the state of mind has direct impact on the shape of face and expressions. As a result shape of the face is changed as per mentality of the person.
Now the question is how to read any face. Samudrika Shastra gives the information about Physiognomy and body language. Sage Samudra, Narad, Varah propagated this art or knowledge. Thereafter, Aristotle (Greece) tried to read human instincts on the basis of resemblance. Aristotle was of the view that the person, having face resembling to the lion’s face, is equipped with the characteristics of lion. Likewise he founded the theory of reading human face on the basis of resemblance with parrot, ox, sheep, cat, monkey etc. Today, this science has become more developed and rich with the inclusion of new ideas, thoughts and knowledge.
