Brendan loved his Dad! However, he was puzzled as he had never heard his dad laugh. ‘Dad works all day just to give me good clothes and toys! I must help him, too,’ thought Brendan. Every day, he would say, “Dad, I want to help you! How can I help you?” However, Dad would gently pat Brendan’s back and continue working. Brendan thought very hard, but he could think of nothing that would help. Three days later, Brendan’s Grandma came to visit them. She looked at her son, and took over the washing, cleaning and cooking. Brendan saw his father relax and sit comfortably for the first time in a very, very long time. Before leaving, Grandma called Brendan and said, “I know you want to help your Dad! Then do your own work and help in the house.” Brendan understood Grandma’s meaning. Now he cleaned his own room and helped Dad with the housework, too. Dad smiled more now.
