It is known for its excellent climbing skills in rocky regions and alpine forests, where it dominates the heights of over 3,000 metres. They also feel at home when there is no snow in larch-spruce woodlands. Mostly, males and females occupy separate habitats; males prefer coniferous forests, whereas females occupy meadows.
