The India Gate is a war memorial built in Delhi, India, in 1931. The India Gate, which was originally known as the All India War Memorial, was built to commemorate the soldiers who fought and died from 1914-1921. The memorial stands at a height of 42 metres on a low base of red Bharatpur stone. A shallow domed bowl at the top was to be filled with burning oil on ceremonial occasions.
Amazing Fact: A black marble plinth with a revered L1A1 Self loading rifle, capped with war helmet, was erected under the India Gate in 1979.
