Indo-Chinese War

In United Nation’s Constituent Assembly, Jawaharlal put forward a proposal to celebrate International Cooperation Year to increase the mutual co-existence and cooperation between the countries. Then the world leaders decided to celebrate it on the occasion of 75th birthday of Jawaharlal.
Now the whole world was hoping that this peace will continue for long. Jawaharlal also hoped for the best but soon his beliefs were shaken when China attacked on India on 20th October 1962.
It was the same China to whom India gave recognition on 1st October 1949 after establishing communist government. In the beginning many nations were against her, but it was India who firstly gave a hand of friendship and supported her. Not only this, it was India who continuously raised her voice in United Nations to give her a place. It was the same China, by which India signed Panchsheel. It was the same China, whose Prime Minister Cho-En-Lai received grand welcome in India. It was same China, who welcomed Jawaharlal in their country and claimed friendship.
Nehruji clearly realised that China had cheated India. They had pierced a knife on our back. But he didn’t loose his balance. He gave a brave call to the nation in a broadcast when the Chinese attack seemed massive. “India would fight and ultimately victory would be ours.” He was not prepared for the turn of military events, and as news of the falling back of the Indian forces came day after day, he sat in Parliament sullen, though calm, discomfited through with his own inner thoughts of the strategic possibilities.
The whole world inflamed on hearing this news. Necessary military aid was received from U.S.A., Britain and Australia. Spontaneous offers of sympathy received from several countries. Many countries criticized Chinese action. China didn’t realised that so many countries will stand for India’s support. So the Chinese acted suddenly and mysteriously on November 21 by announcing unilateral withdrawal, just when they seemed ready to descend on the valley of the Brahmaputra and cut-off Assam from the rest of India.
Now after the war, Nehruji was not the Nehru as had seen before war. Chinese attack deeply touched his heart and he was suffering from the pain given by a friend to whom Nehruji trusted a lot. He was broken from inside. The active Nehru had became slacked. The shoulders went down having low enthusiasm.
