Salya told them the stories of Indra and Nahusha, to show that Duryodhana would be destroyed. Indra once insulted Brihaspati, the guru of devas, so he left devalok. Indra was asked to take Vishwarupa, son of Twastha, as the teacher. But in a fit of anger Indra killed Vishwarupa. The angry Twastha sent a demon named Vritra to kill Indra. The frightened gods sought help from Vishnu. Finally, Indra managed to kill Vritra through trickery. He was so ashamed that he hid himself. The gods needed a king. So, they made Nahusha the king of devalok. He became arrogant and wanted Shachi, Indra’s wife, also to serve him. Indra advised Shachi. Accordingly, she agreed to go with Nahusha if he was carried to her house by the seven great sages, the Saptarishis. Nahusha did that, beating and kicking them. Rishi Agastya cursed him and he became a serpent. A humbled Indra returned to his throne.
