Isopods are crustaceans living in land, sea and freshwater. They have segmented exoskeletons, two pairs of antennae, seven pairs of jointed limbs and five pairs of branching appendages on their abdomens for respiration. There are 10,000 species, most of them being marine. Their sizes range from 0.3 mm to 50 cm. They feed on mosses, bark, algae, fungi and decaying matter.
