Jack, the Ripper is an alleged serial killer believed to be in and around the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. Only five murders between August and November 1888 seemed to be linked, but they were never solved. Though there were only five cases attributed to him and he was in the limelight for a short period of twelve weeks yet the crimes are still talked about because of the coverage the media gave to the crimes. Also, the locality where the killings occurred was a breeding ground for social unrest. The sensational name given to the miscreant was another factor which rendered mystique and drama.
