James Bruce was born on 14th December 1730 in Stirlingshire, United Kingdom and died on 27th April 1794 (aged 63 years) in Scotland, United Kingdom. James was a Scottish traveller and travel writer who traced the origins of the Blue Nile. He was first commissioned to study the ancient ruins of Algiers. Afterwards, he travelled to Tunis, Tripoli and reached Crete and moved on to Syria. He made the careful drawings of all his ruins which were a part of the Royal collection at Windsor Castle. His next aim was to discover the source of the Blue Nile which he reached on 4th November 1770.

Do you know: James negated Jesuit Pedro Paez’s claim to have found the origin of the Blue Nile by saying that the missionary’s memoirs had been fabricated.
