Arjuna sped to where Jayadratha was. A fierce battle began between the two. Soon the sun would set, so Jayadratha kept looking at the horizon. Krishna caused a short period of darkness to fall. Jayadratha thought the sun had set. So, he became a little less alert. Immediately, Arjuna shot an arrow that carried off Jayadratha’s head. The sun came out again. Arjuna sent a relay of arrows that carried Jayadratha’s head to make it fall in his father’s lap. His father had been meditating and, as he stood up, Jayadratha’s head rolled on to the ground. The father’s curse came back upon him. His head burst into hundreds of pieces. The war-cries and conches were heard all over the battlefield. The sun finally set, but on that day the battle did not stop at sunset. It continued into the night as the furious warriors attacked one another.
