Arjuna sped to where Jayadratha was. A fierce battle began between the two. Krishna knew that there was a solar eclipse. So, he was quiet. Soon, darkness prevailed. Arjuna was dumb founded. He dropped his Gandiva. Jayadratha with the other Kaurava warriors went up to Arjuna and burst out laughing. Jayadratha spoke out, “Bring logs of wood and burn a fire. Arjuna will commit suicide.” When Arjuna got down the chariot, Krishna asked him to carry his bow and arrows. When Arjuna reached the bonfire, all of a sudden the sun appeared out of the clouds. The Kaurava warriors were dumb-struck. Jayadratha was shivering with fright. Then Krishna said to him, “O Arjuna! Don’t delay any more. Pick up your bow and shoot an arrow which will carry Jayadratha’s head and make it fall into his father’s lap.”
Arjuna shot an arrow that carried Jayadratha’s head and made it fall into his father’s lap. His father had been meditating and, as he stood up, Jayadratha’s head rolled onto the ground. So, his own head burst into hundreds of pieces.
