The John dory lives near seabeds and has an olive-green body, a silvery belly and a large dark eye spot on the side which confuses prey. It feeds on fish like sardines, cuttlefish and squid. They mature at 3-4 years of age, spawning at the end of winter, releasing eggs and sperm in the water to fertilize. Their lifespan is 12 years.
