Joseph Banks was born on 24th February 1743 in London, UK, and he died on 19th June 1820 (aged 77 years) in London, UK. Joseph was a Botanist, scientist and explorer. He explored the newly discovered areas of New Foundland and Labrador and even went as far as Iceland to study the natural history of these places. He published the first account of the flora and fauna of this area. A part of the first voyage was undertaken by James Cook where on landing in Brazil he made the first scientific description of the commom garden plant, Bougainvillea.
