Karen did not like to work. She avoided doing housework. She never cleaned her cupboard or brushed her shoes. The mother wanted her to take interest in extra activities, if she did not like doing household activities. Karen’s mother took her to a curio store. “Karen, there are so many items that something or the other is bound to interest you. Choose any thing that you like,” the mother said. Karen saw a brush. It was old but very cheap. “This is a magic brush. It cleans the room really well,” said the store-keeper. Karen excitedly bought the brush. When she got home, she found the brush very ordinary. She complained to the store-keeper that there was no magic in the brush. He said “Little girl, the brush works like magic but you have also to make efforts at your end.” Karen understood that unless she worked, nothing would work wonders.
