Kinaalda is a four-day coming of age ceremony for the girls who have reached puberty, celebrated by the Navajo tribe in North America.
Do you know: The origin of this ceremony began with the myth of the changing woman who was said to be the first woman on the earth to have children.
The Kinaalda ceremony begins in the traditional family house, known as the Hogan where the mother and the daughter sit facing the door and the mother combs her daughter’s hair and ties it in a ponytail, marking the beginning of the celebration. The four-day event involves many ‘runs’ made by the girl, sleepless night, prayers, ‘moulding’ the girl to become strong and tall and baking a cake in an earthen oven.
